Sloe de vie

Yesterday we headed up to Sonoma for a boozy sunshiney good time. We recently joined the wine club at Lynmar, and needed to pick up our fall allotment. It turned out to be a great excuse to sit in their garden with friends and taste some good stuff, and also stock up for Thanksgiving. Their garden is ridiculous – they swear it’s all organic, but the chard and kale have a massive Jurassic Park vibe going on.

Then we brought friends to the distillery for a tour. Spiritworks’ barrel reserve sloe gin, which will be available soon, is beyond delicious. It makes for a very luxurious late-night sipper. Or midafternoon sipper, as we proved yesterday.

THEN we stopped by a winery open house, hosted by a friend of a friend. Wine tasting at golden hour, plus all the squash we could carry. We went home with a back seat full of gourds. Now I just have to remember which are edible and which are just decorative…

(Notice the naughty gourdsmanship.)
